“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…” I’m sure it’s a line you’ve heard a million times by now, and if you’re like me, I am a gift giver at heart. I love to see the smile on someone’s face when they open a gift I put a lot of thought into. If you haven’t guessed by the Podcast, Social Media, and Blog all by the name of The Sassenach Files, let me just tell you, I’m a HUGE Outlander fan. And having just celebrated a birthday where my entire family completely recognized and enabled my obsession, I feel I can comfortably say, there is nothing better for my fellow Obsassenachs than opening an Outlander themed gift. For that reason, I’m giving you a list of five potential gifts for the Obsassenach in your life. Trust me, they’ll love them!
1. Outlander Kitchen

The Outlander books are full to brimming with different food items whether those are oatcakes, rabbit stew, or maple pudding. And if a reader of Outlander has ever told you they don’t wonder what some of these recipes taste like, well I don’t want to call them a liar but…
With the sheer magnitude of items to choose from, it was really a missed opportunity for some chef to come along and fill in the blanks for us. Cue Theresa Carle-Sanders. She has now created two cookbooks Outlander Kitchen and Outlander Kitchen: To The New World and Back Again.
If the Obsassenach in your life likes to cook, do them a favor and pick up these beauties. Each recipe includes the excerpt form the series, where that food item is mentioned along with a little bit of the history behind the recipe. Its super fun, and each cookbook has items ranging in difficulty so that even the newest cook in the kitchen can make something Outlander inspired.
2. Clanlands: Whisky, Warfare, and A Scottish Adventure Like No Other

In the summer of 2019, Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish, known to Outlander fans as Jamie Fraser and Dougal MacKenzie, went on a road trip around Scotland, and they made a TV show about it. The most recent news on that front though is the BOOK they wrote. It is probably one of the most hilariously informative pieces I have read in recent years, and I highly recommend it to any Outlander / Scotland fan.
The tales of their adventures over the course of a couple weekends in the summer of 2019 are an absolute delight. When the two authors aren’t throwing playful jabs in each other’s general vicinity or telling their own version of a particularly embarrassing anecdote about the other, they are telling the story of the land, culture, and heritage of their mother country, and the love and passion they have for Scotland is evident in every word of this quick read. 10/10 recommend — especially if you can snag one of those coveted autographed copies.
3. Outlander’s Scotland

In the time of COVID-19, no one is travelling — much to my chagrin. But allow the Obsassenach in your life to transport themselves to Scotland via Outlander’s Scotland by Phoebe Taplin. In this short little book, the reader is taken for a ride around the country from Glasgow to Falkland and everywhere in between as they explore the filming locations of Outlander, and all the history surrounding them. I also plan to use it as a springboard for my own Scotland trip, once international travel becomes a thing again. Until then though, I’ll tide myself over with a little history lesson and all the pretty pictures 🙂
4. Support Small Businesses

I’m always a huge proponent of purchasing from small businesses, so here is my usual Holiday plug. Sites like Etsy are a wonderful online market for some of the most creative Outlander fans, and I love to buy from them. The quality is almost always equal to, if not better than, the name brand, super expensive stuff from the Outlander Store. Here you can find anything from knitted Outlander inspirations to T-shirts, signs, artwork, and even handmade masks. Whatever your Outlander loving friends are into, I guarantee you, you can find something they will love on Etsy. Just click the logo on the left to take you to the main Outlander search page. I’ve also included my favorite Outlander shops on Etsy below.
5. Autographed Paraphernalia

Autographed items always get a gold star in my book, but unfortunately they are kind of pricey. Because of the rarity of signed scripts and the like, there are also a lot of imposters out there ready to take some poor chap’s money over a fake autographed script or headshot. So please, please, please do yourself a favor if you decide to go down the autographed memorabilia road and get a certificate of authentication along with your purchase. If a site or seller cannot provide a certificate of authentication — it isn’t the real deal, and you can move on down the line.
As far as places you can get autographed merch, HollywoodMemorabilia.com comes with an authenticity guarantee for all of their products.
They have a good selection of scripts and photographs signed by the cast. If it’s a Diana Gabaldon autograph you’re after, The Poisoned Pen in Scottsdale, Arizona, is her home base, and they carry an array of autographed books at all times. Please keep in mind that this may not be the case at the moment, as autographed books are a popular Christmas gift.
I hope this article has been a useful resource for you if you were a bit stumped on Outlander related Christmas gifts. If you have any questions, please feel free to comment below, and I will do my best to help you out!
Have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!
Cheers!
